Hello! I’m Wentao Chen. I grew up in China and am now based in the Bay Area, where I’m continuing to explore new paths, challenges, and hobbies that keep me curious and moving forward.
How I Got Here
My story has been a mix of moving across continents and following curiosity. I left China to study in the U.S., where I spent four years in Virginia before moving to Oakland. Along the way, I found myself drawn not just to academics but to problem-solving in everyday life—whether it was mapping out a long ride, cooking something new from scratch, or getting lost in a game that demanded both strategy and persistence.
That balance of discipline and creativity is what shaped me, and it still drives the way I spend my time today.
My Past Experience
-
AI × Automation Engineer @ EasyBee AI (May–Oct 2024)
I led the development of AI tools—from voice-enabled car rental agents to automated booking systems. I built agent flows using Voiceflow integrated with Python, and refined workflows to boost reliability—all while staying in sync with the needs of our business team. -
Teaching Assistant @ UVA (Sep 2022–May 2023)
I mentored students building Django + Heroku apps, held office hours for database and software classes, and graded assignments with fair, clear rubrics.
4 Random Things
- I’ve been cycling the Old La Honda trail for months now — it’s become a regular reset for me, both physically and mentally.
- I’ve been playing basketball since middle school, and it’s still one of my favorite ways to stay active and connect with people.
- I’m a longtime Dota 2 player — it started as a hobby years ago, and I still enjoy the strategy and teamwork it demands.
- I’m a huge fan of cooking — experimenting with flavors and recipes is my way of unwinding outside of code.
